Microsoft 365 Continuity

Microsoft 365 Kept Running Through Every Stage of Your Office Move

Microsoft 365 is cloud-hosted, so organisations assume it moves cleanly. It does not. The moment staff connect from a new IP address, conditional access policies that were built around Named Locations start misbehaving. Intune Wi-Fi profiles point at an SSID that no longer exists. Teams Rooms are offline. IronSights manages every one of these changes before, during, and after your move.

Named Locations and conditional access updated before move day
Intune Wi-Fi profiles and compliance policies reviewed
Teams Rooms recommissioned and tested at new site

The Microsoft 365 Settings That Break on Move Day

The IP address of the new office is not in any Named Location. Conditional access policies still reference the old range. The moment users arrive at the new site and connect, they are either blocked or required to re-authenticate with MFA prompts that were not there before. In a strict policy configuration, some services will not open at all.

IronSights maps every location-sensitive Microsoft 365 setting before the move, prepares the required changes, and applies them in the correct sequence during the cutover window. The Named Location gets updated before staff arrive. The old IP gets removed after the old site is vacated. Nothing falls through the gap between those two events.

Microsoft 365 Expertise Embedded in Every Relocation

IronSights manages Microsoft 365 environments as part of our Managed IT and relocation services. Our engineers work in Entra ID, Intune, Exchange Online, Teams, and Defender for Endpoint daily. When a relocation touches these configurations, we handle the changes within the relocation scope. No separate engagement, no handover between teams.

  • Entra ID Named Locations updated before the new IP goes live
  • Conditional access policies reviewed and updated for the new network
  • Intune Wi-Fi configuration profiles pushed for the new SSID
  • Teams Rooms decommissioned from old rooms and recommissioned at new site
  • Exchange Online calling and Direct Routing configuration for phone system changes
  • Defender for Endpoint network boundary configuration reviewed

What We Manage

The Microsoft 365 workstreams IronSights handles across a typical office relocation.

Entra ID and Conditional Access

Named Locations updated with the new office IP range. Conditional access policies reviewed so access is not disrupted when users arrive at the new site. Old IP removed after vacating.

Intune and Device Management

Wi-Fi configuration profiles updated for the new SSID. Compliance policies checked for network-dependent conditions. Device configuration profiles reviewed for location-specific settings.

Teams and Calling

Teams Rooms decommissioned from old rooms and recommissioned at the new site with full testing. Direct Routing and calling configuration updated where the phone system is changing.

Defender and Security

Network boundary definitions in Defender for Endpoint reviewed for the new environment. Security alerts that may fire during the move identified in advance.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Microsoft 365 settings need to change when we move offices?+

The most common changes required during an office relocation: Named Locations in need the new office IP range added before move day; policies that reference those Named Locations need to be updated so users are not blocked or hit with unexpected challenges at the new site; Wi-Fi configuration profiles need to reference the correct SSID and credentials for the new network; need to be decommissioned from the old rooms and recommissioned in the new ones; and if the phone system is changing, and Teams Direct Routing configuration may need updating. Where uses network boundary definitions, those need reviewing too.

What happens if we do not update conditional access policies before the move?+

If your policies use Named Locations for IP-based trust and you do not update them before the move, users connecting from the new office IP will not match any trusted location. Depending on how the policies are configured, they may be blocked entirely, forced through additional steps that were not required at the old office, or denied access to specific applications. In a compliant device policy with strict location requirements, this can prevent access to services from the new site until the Named Location is updated.

How do you handle Teams Rooms during an office relocation?+

The sequence matters. devices need to be signed out and decommissioned from the old room resource accounts before they are physically moved. At the new site, they get recommissioned against the correct room accounts, reconfigured for the new display layout and peripheral setup, and tested end to end — audio, video, calendar integration, and room finder visibility in Teams. Where the room configuration changes (different screen count, new touch panel, different codec), we update the Teams Rooms configuration profile to match. We also test from an external meeting participant's perspective, not just the room console.

Does moving offices affect Intune device management?+

is cloud-hosted, so the platform itself is unaffected. But the configuration profiles it pushes down to devices often are affected. Wi-Fi configuration profiles that reference the old SSID will push the wrong credentials to devices at the new site. Compliance policies that check for trusted network conditions may evaluate differently from the new IP range. Device configuration profiles sometimes reference location-specific settings. IronSights reviews all Intune policies for location-dependent settings before the move and prepares the updated profiles so they are ready to push when the cutover happens.

Can you help reconfigure Exchange Online for a new phone system after the move?+

Yes. Where a relocation involves a phone system change — a new SIP trunk provider, a new number range, or a migration from an on-premises PBX to Teams calling — IronSights manages the and Teams configuration alongside the physical move. That includes Direct Routing configuration, calling plan setup, emergency location registration, and number porting coordination where required.
