Sydney · Access Control Relocation

Access control relocated and reconfigured for the new site.

IronSights relocates door access control systems for Sydney office moves under NSW Master Security Licence 000109187. Readers, controllers, secure zones and credential databases migrated and tested before the first business day.

Moving the hardware is not the hard part. The controller needs reconfiguring for the new site topology. The zone design has to reflect the new floor plan — the server room may be on a different floor, the reception layout is different, the fire exits are in different positions. Credentials need to migrate cleanly so cards work on Monday, not after a support call.

Secure zone continuity through the move

Our process

Designed for the new floor plan, not assumed from the old one.

New entrances, different corridors, changed server room positions. The zone design is specific to the floor plan you are moving into, not a copy of what worked at the old address.

We produce the zone design before installation starts.

Audit

Existing access control system documented: door reader positions, controller configuration, credential database, access groups, time schedules and audit log retention settings.

Design

Access zone map produced for the new floor plan. Reader positions, secure zones, entry and egress points specified before installation starts. Not assumed from the old site.

Relocate

Readers, controllers and hardware removed under licence from the old site, transported and installed at the new site per the zone design.

Commission

Access groups, time schedules, anti-passback rules and credential assignments verified. Every door tested before the system is handed over.

Scope

Access control workstreams we manage in the relocation.

Hardware, configuration, credentials and zone design all managed under licence as a single workstream.

Door reader relocation

Card, fob, PIN and biometric readers removed, transported and installed at the positions specified in the zone design. Existing readers not simply remounted wherever cable reaches.

Controller migration

Access control panels and door controllers relocated and reconfigured for the new site topology. IP addresses, door assignments and zone configuration updated to match the new layout.

Credential management

Existing credential database preserved during the migration. Cards and fobs issued at the old site remain valid at the new one. Any intentional changes, such as removing departed staff, are made as part of the process.

Secure zone design

Access zones for the new site mapped from the floor plan. Server room, archive room and sensitive area access policies configured for the new layout before staff arrive.

Cabling and infrastructure

New cable runs, reader mounting positions and power supply installation coordinated with the structured cabling contractor. Reader positions confirmed before cabling begins.

Audit log continuity

Access audit logs preserved through the migration. Historical access records retained and the audit trail kept continuous, which matters for compliance and any post-move incident investigation.

Building management integration

Where the access control system integrates with building management, lifts or intercom, those integrations are reviewed and updated for the new site configuration.

Door testing and sign-off

Every door tested: card and fob access, time schedule enforcement, door held open alerts and fail-safe or fail-secure confirmation. Sign-off only after all doors pass.

Licensed access control work

Access control installation in NSW is regulated under the Security Industry Act 1997. The licensing requirement applies to installation and maintenance work regardless of context, including as part of an office relocation. Businesses that use unlicensed contractors carry compliance exposure.

IronSights holds NSW Master Security Licence No. 000109187. All access control relocation work is performed under that licence by authorised technicians.

  • NSW Master Security Licence No. 000109187 covers access control installation
  • All technicians authorised for licensed security installation work
  • ISO 27001 certified information security management
  • ISO 9001 quality framework across every engagement

Access control risks in an unmanaged move

Physical security gaps during a relocation are difficult to detect and tend to surface at inconvenient moments.

  • Uncontrolled access during the move weekend
  • Access control installation by unlicensed contractors
  • Secure zones not mapped at the new site on day one
  • Credential database lost or corrupted during controller migration
  • Building management integration broken at the new site
  • Staff unable to reach the server room on Monday morning

Outcomes

Doors operational, zones documented.

Every door tested before the first business day.

Access zone map, credential status, audit log continuity and door test results documented at handover.

Access working on day one

Every door tested and confirmed before staff arrive. Cards and fobs valid at the new site. Secure zones correctly configured for the new layout.

Secure zones intact

Server room, archive and sensitive area access policies configured for the new floor plan. No areas left unmapped or uncontrolled because the zone design was not updated.

Licensed installation

All access control work performed under NSW Master Security Licence 000109187. The licence number and scope of work documented in the handover pack.

Audit log preserved

Historical access records retained and the audit trail continuous through the migration. The system arrives at the new site with its history intact.

Access control relocation process

From system audit to confirmed door access.

  1. Access control system audit

Document every reader, controller, credential, access group, time schedule and audit log setting at the old site. The audit is the reference point everything else is checked against.

  2. New site zone design

Produce access zone map for the new floor plan. Specify reader positions, secure zones and door policies. Get the design signed off before installation begins.

  3. Cabling and infrastructure

Coordinate cable runs, reader mounting and power supply with the structured cabling contractor at the new site. Reader positions confirmed before cabling starts.

  4. Relocation and commissioning

Readers and controllers installed at the new site. Credentials, access groups and time schedules configured and tested against the zone design.

  5. Door testing and sign-off

Every door tested for card, fob and schedule enforcement. Secure zones verified against the zone design. Sign-off pack produced at handover.

Common questions

Questions about access control relocation.

More questions? Email hello@ironsights.com.au or book a planning call.

  1. Does access control installation require a security licence in NSW?

Yes. Under the Security Industry Act 1997 (NSW), installation and maintenance of access control systems is a licensed activity. IronSights holds NSW Master Security Licence No. 000109187, which covers the design, supply, installation and maintenance of access control systems. Businesses that use unlicensed contractors for this work carry compliance exposure, including during an office relocation.

  2. Will our existing cards and fobs still work at the new office?

Yes, provided the credential database migrates correctly. We preserve the existing credential database during the migration so cards and fobs issued at the old site remain valid at the new one. Intentional changes, such as deactivating cards for staff who have left, can be made before or alongside the migration. We document what changed and when.

  3. How do you handle secure zones like server rooms at the new site?

We produce a zone map for the new floor plan before installation starts. Server rooms, archive rooms and any sensitive areas are identified, and the access policy for each is agreed before the zone design is signed off. The policy is configured from day one rather than added retrospectively after someone finds they cannot get in.

  4. What access control platforms do you work with?

We work with UniFi Access, Gallagher, Genetec, Lenel, HID, Paxton and most IP-based and legacy access control platforms. UniFi Access is our preferred platform for straightforward office environments. If you are on a different platform, we work within it rather than recommending a replacement.

  5. Can you relocate access control alongside CCTV?

Yes, and for most office moves it makes sense to scope both together. CCTV and access control share cabling infrastructure, door positions and coverage requirements. Managing them as a single physical security workstream reduces the number of contractors on site and means the systems are commissioned together rather than at different points during the move.

  6. What happens to the access audit log during the migration?

Access audit logs are preserved during the migration. We do not reset or clear controller firmware or configuration unless specifically required by the engagement scope. Historical access records remain available in the system after the move. For organisations with compliance or forensic requirements, the audit trail continuity is documented in the sign-off pack.
